WE'RE HOME!

Sunday, May 06, 2007
7:30 p.m

We just got home a while ago. We drove all day, did math, and I had to finish A Tale of Two Cities (Yuck) before I got on the computer. Nothing really exciting happened. I washed windows with the thingy at the gas station.

MENTAL FLOSS

Sunday, May 06, 2007
7:30 p.m

Ok guys, sorry I didn’t blog yesterday. We didn’t have internet access. Here’s what happened:
Thankfully it was sunny today, but it was our last day so it was kinda depressing. We took a bike ride around the neighborhoods, bought ice cream at the camp store (it’s really hot here) and headed to Perdido Key. We stopped on the way to buy some fresh sea food like crab cakes, tuna(that thing is beautiful) and some other fish that I forget the name of, maybe Mahi Mahi?
Perdido Key was a bit more crowded today but it still wasn’t bad at all. We spent the day in the waves, snorkeling, and lazing around. We did see a GINOURMOUS jellyfish, we think it was a Man O’ War. YIKES! We don’t know if it was dead or alive. I sure didn’t wanna find out.
I went snorkeling with Darby and my dad and we saw a couple fish. Nothing impressive. We started to head back around the rocks to see if we could spot anything else, but I got out ‘cause I got stuck by the jellyfish. Yes again, third time in my life. This time it was bleeding just a bit. My dad and Darby went back around, and apparently saw two HUMONGOUS FISH! One was about as long as your arm, and the other one was about as long as your leg according to my dad. They also went through a whole clump of jellyfish! They said it was like in Finding Nemo, but, of course, my dad and sister didn’t get stung! I was furious. I can walk into the ocean and get stung instantly, but they can go through a whole field of them and not get stung. ARG!
We also saw this weird little things on the beach. They were in bright purple shells, and it looked like some sort of egg. Some of these creatures were hatched, they were also purple and about the size of your pinkie nail, they looked like little crabs or something. Hopefully the pics turned out. They were freaky.
We left around three, and drove the rest of the night. Exciting huh? By the way, comments are looking great Ben and Becky?

Tut Tut, Looks Like Rain!

Friday, May 04, 2007
8:30 p.m Fort Wayne, 7:30 Alabama

Wow you guys, nice on the commenting-keep it up! Here’s the current score- Ben,10; Anguiano,2; V, 8; Becky, 2; Rachel Schenke; 2. Overall, boys 12, girls 12!
It was cloudy and rainy today. YUCK. We were planning to go to the pool and beach (again) but everyone was kinda sick of that today and it wasn’t the greatest weather.
We decided to take the ferry over to Dauphin Island and go to the estuarium (kinda like an aquarium). We barely made it to the 11:45 a.m. ferry. The bad part about the ferry is that the last ride is at 6:30 p.m. and if you don’t make you’re stuck. Yea, and ya know that time isn’t the talent in the Ellis household. The ferry over was wet and pretty uneventful. I was hoping to see some dolphins since this was the same place we saw them two days ago, but I wasn’t in luck. The estuarium was really neat. Some of the fish were appallingly huge! It tells all about Mobil Bay and all about the natural gas fields under Mobil Bay, and about all the habitats around Mobil Bay. We ate lunch there too.
We decided to go back on the ferry early because it was starting to rain. The next ride was in an hour. So we sat out in the pouring rain, for an hour, playing a game called Fill or Bust. Fun game. We’re pretty much obsessed with this game. I’ll teach it to ya’ll at a swim meet some time. Ok, back to the original subject. We found a little overhang on a bathroom building were the pop machines are, so we sat there and played our game. We looked like a homeless bunch, or a crazy mob, take your pick.
After waiting an hour for the ferry we then stood on the ferry in the drizzle for another 45 minutes. We were the only “walkers” everyone else sat in their cars on the ferry. They were gracious enough to let us use the room where they stored the life jackets, only we couldn’t touch the emergency fuel/oil shut off. That would be horribly bad. Darby got about three inches from it one time and I was leaning on it before I found out what it was. YIKES!
We got back to the campground and Darby and Tatum went swimming and I sat here and blogged, then took a break for chicken enchiladias, beans and corn, and marshmallows. We’re about to go play more games. I’m kinda glad that today was rainy, my sunburn couldn’t afford a sunny day. Last night was one disturbed night. Lol.
Today was our last full day, depressing lemme tell ya. Tomorrow we’ll be here some of the day, but then we head back to Indiana.
Whoever comments the most, I’m gonna bring ya back a treat from Alabama ok? Ok. KEEP THE COMMENT’S GOING!

BEN'S IN THE LEAD!

Thursday, May 03, 2007
9:42 p.m. Fort Wayne, 8:42 Alabama

Ok, I did not burn my armpits, close to the armpits, but not the armpits. I will admit that I did sort of kinda chicken out on the seagulls though. I’m saying this to end this topic. Oh, and the phone number, if you haven’t noticed Dumby put our phone number on the blog ( I have edited this by now, my mom wasn’t very happy) but fortunately she put the wrong phone number-by accident. Yea, she missed a number. Imagine my pride when the brain of my younger sister is shown for all the world to see. Okay, now for the story of our day.
We headed straight for the beach on Perdido Key this morning. Perdido Key is partially in Florida and partially in Alabama. They actually have a section of the island called the Floribama, the Florida/Alabama line. While we were crossing the bridge to the island we saw the most beautiful beach ever. The water was a gorgeous blue green. It was a small peninsula, with one of the sides choppy and wave-ridden, and the other side calmer and clearer. We decided to stop and stay at the beach.
We were hoping to snorkel but we soon found out that the water was to choppy. However, the waves were FANTABULOUS! Seriously huge! We played in them all day. There was a fisherman there too that had caught a 40 lb Pompino. It was about as big as Katty. He had the fish (and another smaller one) in the same cooler as he had his food! I was like, oh nice. He said he’s caught a 90lb Pompino before!
Around 4 we decided to take a walk toward the bridge. We saw dolphins again!!!!!! I was so happy. Unfortunately, there were boats traveling through so I couldn’t go swim with them. It was still cool though. I also saw two crabs and a dead shrimp.
We went to a place called Mikee’s seafood for dinner. I shared the seafood platter with my mom which included fish, shrimp, gumbo ( I love that stuff), hush puppies, fritters, French fries, and oysters. Darby and Tatum decided to be pigs and both order the All You Can Eat Shrimp. They each had three platefuls, Darby had only a little bit to go on her third plate. We had heard that the Peanut Butter Pie here was awesome. We ordered some peanut butter pie and some key lime. The peanut butter pie was melt in your mouth good. Seriously delicious.
Ok, one bad thing about today. I got fried. I am burnt on the back of my legs, my arms, and my face. My “armpit burn” is better. So are my feet. Tatum also looks like a blonde tomato for your information. I need to change my password for the login to the blog. She can say too much sometimes. Oh, and I got stung by a jellyfish today.

Two of Morgans many,many, lies

10:27, Fort Wayne, 9:26 Alabama.
In spite of what Morgan may say, her armpits are burnt, and she totally chickend out to the seagull dare. Another one of the lies shes fed you is that she didn't know we had any more crackers. I told her a thousand times we had five packs of Saltines. if you would like to hear anymore of the lies shes told you, call me at -----------. Thank you.
Miles and Smiles!
Tatum
P.S. Comment or Morgan and I will never blog again.

A comment to Tatum's untruthful post

Just to add to Tatum's post. I did not chicken out. I didn't know we had more crackers. Ok? Thank you.

I DID NOT BURN MY ARMPITS!!!!!!!!

Wednesday, May 02, 2007
7:07 Fort Wayne, 6:07 Alabama

Ok, I did NOT BURN MY ARMPITS! Whatever Tatum said – don’t believe it. Seriously, my shoulders are burnt, along with the skin that is part of the crease over the armpit, not the pit of the arm. My golly. My feet are burnt though, there getting better.
Hung around the pool this morning- again. We started to head to the beach around noon but Darby and Tatum wanted to buy a snorkel set and a boogie board so we stopped at a sovienir shop called Alvins. They had shirts for 10 bucks! I was in heaven. I got two t-shirts and Darby and Tatum each got a snorkel, mask, and boogie board.
We found a parking spot right across from the beach we wanted to go to. We finally headed out of the RV but there were some really dark clouds in the sky and the wind started picking up. Afraid that it was gonna rain, we headed back across the street to the RV. Half the family changed into regular clothes and we went with plan B.
Scoop’s, an ice cream shoppe, was just around the corner. We stopped in there and got some. The funny thing was that they served Edy’s, which probably came from the factory in Fort Wayne! The ice cream was real good though. My mom had Dulce le Leche, Tatum had Toll House cookie dough, Darby had Rocky Road (or something like that), Katty had Mint Chocolate Chip, my dad had Fudge Brownie, and I had Double chocolate Malt ball(or something like that).
After eating (or licking), we headed over to this boardwalk thingy that went through this nature reserve. Apparently you were supposed to see alligators because they had a sign saying that if you fed ‘em that it’d be a $500 fine and six months imprisonment. We didn’t see an gators much to my disappointment. We did see lots of fishes and three crabs though!
By that time it was sunny again (of course) but we just decided to head to the pool. We hung around there and played games, and now I’m in the RV blogging, my dad’s preparing dinner (Buffalo wings: yummy) and the rest of the gang is still swimming.
And you know what the closing paragraph is gonna be don’t cha? COMMENT! I shouldn’t even have to ask ya’ll anymore, but I’m still waiting for the Andrew’s. I can’t really blame the Vogts considering they just got home today. So far, I believe V is in the lead with three comments, Schenke and Becky close behind with two each, and Ben has one. You guys better get a hustle.

I was eaten alive by seagulls!

well not exactly but it was REALLY close. Okay, let me tell you the whole story before you start to jump to conclusions. After Morgans narrow escape from a vicious flock of seagulls, my Mom dared her to lie down with crackers on her stomach. She totally chickened out, so I had to do it. My mom decided to videotape it. First, I gave them all crackers so about a hundred seagulls were surrounding me After I laid on the ground with crackers all over me about ten minutes, I decided to put a hat over my face hoping they'd think i was just a blob. About three minutes later, I felt a thwump on my belly. A brave seagull who was hoovering above me decided to eat off me. It felt weird. Natrally, my Mom managed not to catch it on video. It happened again. And again. neither of the times did my Mom catch it on tape. I dont know what she was pointing that camra at but it certainly wasn't me. f
Feeling a little discouraged, I shooed all the seagulls away. That was my second neardeath experince. Can you guys comment Puh-leez, not that I really care, but I want to make Morgan really mad that you guys commented for me and not her.
MILES AND SMILES!

P.S. Morgan has sunburnt feet and armpits.

I am a hero!

Okidoke, another “laze around and sit on our butts day”, along with a little action, of course. We headed to the pool after breakfast and met this girl there named Sara. She was absolutely hysterical. I’m guessing she was around nine. Her accent made her all the more funny. She had three older brothers and you could obviously tell they teased the living daylights out of her.
Around noon we headed for a short drive down the coast to Fort Morgan (funny huh?). It was one of the last forts to fall to the Yankee’s during the civil war. It’s at the tip where Mobil Bay and the Gulf of Mexico meet and Mobil Bay was the only outsource of trade for the blockade runners during that time. It was really interesting.
There was a beach right next to the fort so we decided to go over. The beach was diffidently not a public beach. There was trash in numerous places but there was also a lot of wildlife. We saw about a billion of dead crabs, three of them are huge. Tatum buried the big ones. We also saw a dead jellyfish. There was a dip in the sand and it looked like a making of a tide pool. There were two little fishes stuck in there, perfect bait for the stupid seagulls. They were adorable, about the size of your middle finger. I had to get them out, and I did quite easily. And yes, with my bare hands (ok, with the help of a shell). I was very proud of myself, that's three lives I've saved this trip.
We found thousands of hermit crabs and Katty was fascinated with those. We decided to walk down to a fishing pier about half a mile away. There was a heron (one of my mom’s favorite birds) that was sitting on one of the posts. We got super duper close. The pier was pretty boring but just as we were leaving I hear one of the fisherman mutter something to his other friends. He said something about dolphins. I look behind me and see that out a long ways away in the middle of the ocean were a whole school of dolphins! If you guys don’t know, those guys are my favorite animals of all time. We watched them forever. Finally, they started heading away and we started to walk the long way back to the towels. I saw them pretty close to the beach, about a 75 away. I begged to go out and see them, so Darby, Tatum, Dad, and I started swimming out. Unfortunately, they swim darn fast! They went out to deep and it’d be impossible to catch ‘em. In a manner of speaking, we were swimming with the dolphins. The dolphins and us were in the same body of water, at the same time, in a relatively close vicinity. So I swam with the dolphins!
Ok, now its 9:30 your guys’ time. I took a break to watch American Idol and eat dinner- hamburgers, succotash, burnt fried potatoes! Ok. I’m heading to bed now. You know what I’m gonna say- COMMENT AND THEN YOU’LL TRULY KNOW THAT ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT FOREST FIRES!
